The Bank is managed by a nine-member Board of Directors that meets every month. The Board conducts its affairs through its sub-committees. Below are brief pen pictures and profile of the Directors.



Solomon Atigah is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of BESSFA.  He has a lot of experience from various industry sectors from serving as a board member of Garu Community Based Rehabilitation, Gbewaa Training College, at Pusiga, Presbyterian Health Services, Northern Presbytery, Savannah Farmers Marketing Company, at Tamale and Church Agric Inputs supply project, at Tamale.  He has been the Programme Manager of the Garu Presbyterian Agric Station since 2000, having served as the Accountant from 1990 to 2000.

Solomon holds a Bachelor of Commerce (B. Com) Degree and Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast and a Post Graduate Diploma in Planning from the Institute of Social Studies in the Hague, the Netherlands.  He currently holds M.Phil in Development Studies, University of Development Studies.  Having worked for over 20 years within the catchment area of BESSFA, Solomon has expert knowledge of the socio-cultural setting within which the bank operates.



George is an accomplished Manager.  He has served in various positions in various organizations in the government, para-statal and NGO sectors.  Between 1986 and 1996 he served as the Personnel Officer of FASCOM, at Bolga, rising to become the Administration and Human Resource Manager of the company from 1997 to 1999.  George later became the Regional Manager of ISODEC, a leading NGO, from 1999 to 2007.  He now operates as an Organizational Development Consultant.  He brings to the bank a wealth of relevant experience which has proved invaluable in steering the affairs of BESSFA.

Mr. George Akundikiya also serves in other directorships, including being a Director of CODAC and a Director of the Centre of Sustainable Rural Development.



Paul is an experienced public servant and teacher who brings to BESSFA an in-depth knowledge of the socio-cultural setting of the catchment area within which the bank operates.  This knowledge enriches the Board in its role of steering and directing the operations of the bank.

Paul holds a Diploma in Basic Education and extensive teaching experience within BESSFA’s catchment area.  He is currently an Assistant Director of the Ghana Education Service.  Paul has been very active in the running of the teachers’ Cooperative Society and is currently a member of the District Teacher Support Team and has been a member of BESSFA’s board since 2002.



Samuel has extensive experience of corporate governance at the board level.  He currently serves as a member of the board of the Nakpanduri Senior High School, and Chairman of the Nakpanduri Development Association.

An accomplished teacher, Samuel is currently an Assistant Director of the Ghana Education Service.  He brings to the board expert knowledge of the socio-cultural setting of the Nakpanduri catchment area of BESSFA.  Such knowledge is crucial in formulating polices and directing the operations of the Bank.  Samuel’s contribution has been invaluable since he joined the Board in 2002



Mr. Francis Awindaogo is a co-opted member of the Board.  He holds an M.Sc. in Regional Planning; B.A. (Hons.) in Geography and post graduate Certificates in Agriculture and Rural Project Management, Strategic Management for Development Programmes and Financial Management.  He came to the board with extensive knowledge and experience in Management, Economic Planning and Corporate Governance.  Mr. Awindaogo served as Regional Director of the Northern Region Community Water and Sanitation Agency; Deputy Programme Manager of Northern Region Rural Integrated Programme (NORRIP) and acting Volta Regional Economic Planning Officer.

Mr. Awindaogo served in several other capacities including the following: Board Member of Bagabaga Training College, Tamale (2001 – 2004); Chairman of Board of Governors of Bawku Secondary Technical (2008 – to date); Presiding Member of Bawku East District Assembly (1998 – 2001) and Chairman of Quality Medical Centre, Bawku (2009 – to Date); Member of Upper East Regional Coordinating Council (1998 – 2001).  He has attended several workshops and conferences that add to his wide range of experiences.



Mr. Sumaila joined the BESSFA Board in 1991.  He is a retired Vice Principal (academic) of Gbewaa College of Education. He holds a Masters Degree in Education with emphasis in management from the University of Cape Coast in 2003; B.Ed. Hon. in Science Education from the University of Education in Winneba in 1998 and a Teacher’s Diploma from Winneba in 1978.  Mr. Sumaila has taught in Navrongo Secondary, Lawra Secondary, Bawku Secondary and currently Gbewaa College Education. He held several positions including Assembly Member of the Bawku Municipal Assembly (appointed), Vice Chairman of Board of Governors of Gbewaa College of Education, (1987 – 1998), Head of the Science Department of Gbewaa College of Education (1993 – 1996).

 Mr. Sumaila has attended a number of capacity building workshops and training sessions.  Work plan for strategic management group, management and pedagogy for Vice Principals, Human Resource Management and Supervision of Heads of Department and several others.  He is also a businessman.  He went into full time self employment from 1982 to 1993.  All these and other extensive experiences are brought to bear on the Board of the BESSFA Rural Bank.



Madam Modesta holds a Masters in Business Administration.  She is a financial expert who has worked with several organizations.  Some of these organizations include the Navrongo – Bolgatanga Catholic Diocese, ISODEC, Care International, World Vision International, and ACDEP Financial Services.



Mr. Cletus Azaabi is an Information Technology Expert/Consultant and an Educationist. He holds a Master of Science Degree in Information Technology from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST),Kumasi, a Post-Graduate Diploma in Management Information Systems from School of Technology Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Accra, a Bachelor of Education Degree in Computer Science from the university of Cape Coast (UCC), Cape Coast and a Teacher’s Certificate A, three-year Post-Sec.

He is currently an ICT Tutor and head of the ICT Unit in the Bosco’s College of Education, Navrongo, and a Part-time Tutor in the College of Distance Education, University of Cape Coast.

He served as a Board member in the Upper East Regional Lands Commission from 2011-2016, Board Member, Presbyterian Health Services, Nothern Sector from 2016-Date. MR Azaabi has experience in Managing ICT Projects and provides private Consultancy Services in the IT industry.

has experience in Corporate Governance and has attended several IT related conferences. He is member of the Garu-Tempane District Assembly from 2010-Date where he is currently the Chairman of the Development Planning sub-committee.




Solomon has been the Manager of the bank since January 1991, having previously served as Investment Officer of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust in 1990.

He holds a Degree in Economics and a Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast.  Solomon has also attended a number of Training workshops and courses on banking and micro-finance, including:

Solomon has extensive experience of Corporate Governance at the Board Level.  He has served as a member of the boards and governance bodies of many organizations, including being a member of the Presbyterian Northern Mission Field Area Board, Bawku, from 1994 to 2000, the PTA Chairman, Tempane Senior High School from 2004 to date, Presiding Member of Bawku East District Assembly (2002 – 2004), Presiding Member, of Garu-Tempane District Assembly (2008 – 2010).  He is currently the Chairman of Board of Governors of the Tempane Senior High School.  He has served as one of the key resource persons of the Association of Rural Banks/ARB Apex Bank in the facilitation of training programmes for Rural/Community Banks.
